You should have smoke alarms in key areas along with carbon monoxide detectors. The installation has to be installed in a manner that can service the basement apartment on its own. There should also be enough windows to give an airy feeling to the apartment itself and a courtyard or terrace that the tenants can use to give them a sense of attachment to the outer world. You would also have to make sure there is ample parking space for the people that will be staying there. You can rent this apartment furnished or unfurnished. You can have the utilities included in the rent or separately. It is all up to you what you want out of the basement you have but you do have a lot of options.
